Our sister company Irish Mortgage Brokers was mentioned in the Guardian online about ‘negative equity insurance’. Our comment on the piece is below:
“The vendor has to fund this out of their own cashflow,” says Karl Deeter of Irish Mortgage Brokers. So it will only suit those that have a very small mortgage – mainly older people and those that bought long before the peak – because those are the only ones who will make a profit on their property sale. Deeter is sceptical the insurance is the way to kick-start the moribund Irish market. “It’s part of the general medical box but it’s not the cure,” he says. Deeter is of the view that the government needs to bring in a personal insolvency laws urgently, like Chapter 13 in the US AKA, “wage earners bankruptcy”.

“Getting rid of debt is a good idea, and the new Permanent TSB bonus scheme puts a sweetener on it,” said Karl Deeter, head of customer advice with the financial advisers, advisors.ie. “If you don’t have a rainy-day fund, this is not for you. If you have debt elsewhere that is at a higher interest rate, it is a bad idea.”
Karl Deeter of Advisors.ie was mentioned in two papers, his commentary was via his role as Operations Manager with Irish Mortgage Brokers

IRELAND is in payback mode at the moment. As a country we’re experiencing “deleveraging”, which means that many people are using most of their money to pay back excessive borrowing. However, that practice only puts cash into the banking system and not the real economy.

There are five precious metals (we’ll exclude the precious radioactive ones): Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium, the last is the most expensive, when Barack Obama wanted to give Michelle a gift for having won the Presidency, he gave her a Rhodium ring. The others are all better known and you might even own some in the form of jewellery or in coins.

We did a piece about life assurance for the Irish News of the World on the 30th of January.
The main thrust of the piece was to impress upon readers that life assurance is either not important, or very important indeed depending on your circumstances and family life. The other question is about how much you need – for that we advise using a professional who can work this out for you, we also disclosed how to get the ‘under the table’ prices by using a broker.

We were really pleased to feature on TV3’s ‘Morning Show’ with Sybil and Martin (Brian was standing in for Martin) in a conversation about property prices and whether or not we have hit the bottom. Aoife Walsh from the Respond! Housing Agency was also there giving some great information and advice for borrowers in trouble.
